Chennai: For the first time, IIT Madras has invited Class XI and XII students to participate in the qualification process to join its online bachelor’s degree in programming and data science from May 2022.
If qualified, Class XI students can get the admission letter and will be allowed to join the course after completing their Class XII.
The online BSc degree was launched in 2020 and currently 12,500 students and working professionals are enrolled in the programme.
“Students are stressed about admissions and university positions when they are in their Class XII. They can qualify for this course during the Class XI summer break. This will ensure that they have an admission letter from the best institute in the country before completing their school and reducing their stress,” said Vignesh Muthuvijayan, Head Professor, BSc in Programming and Data Science, IIT Madras,
Learners eligible for the JEE advanced 2021 exam can directly join the BSc program in May 2022.
“We don’t want the students to take another entrance exam,” Muthuvijayan added.
The application process includes four weeks of training, which includes video lectures, weekly assignments, a discussion forum, and live interactions with professors and course instructors. Applicants must take the in-person qualifying exam which is based solely on these four weeks of content and if they achieve more than the minimum threshold, they can join the foundation level of BSc in Programming and Data Science.
The last date to apply for the May term is April 20, 2022. Interested students can apply through the website –
